Frequently Asked Questions:

Which legislative districts in New York City are holding competitive primary elections?

The Democratic Party will hold primaries in the 5th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 14th, and 16th districts. Republican Party voters in the 11th District will also have a chance to select their party’s nominee.

Who is allowed to vote in the primary elections?

To vote in either the Democratic or Republican party primary elections, you must be enrolled in the party. Click this link to verify your voter registration and party enrollment status.

Are there other primaries aside from the Republican and Democratic parties?

In addition, there will be “opportunity to ballot,” or write-in, contests in 3 districts. Voters enrolled in the Conservative Party will be able to cast a primary ballot in the 11th Congressional district. A similar write-in contest will be held by the Reform Party in the 7th and 15th Congressional districts. Because the Reform Party conducts open primaries, any voter who is not enrolled in another party and who lives in those Congressional districts may cast a ballot in the Reform Party primary.

What is Know Your Vote?

Know Your Vote is a collection of news clips covering the candidates running for local, state, and federal offices depending on what's on the ballot. These elections make a big difference in New Yorkers’ lives. Yet, detailed information about the candidates in these races can sometimes be difficult to find. While we refrain from including partisan blogs or other partisan content, we try to include as much information as we can. However, we can’t read everything, so if there is a story you think should be included, we want to hear about it. Send us an email at press@nyccfb.info.

Why do we need KYV?

As New Yorkers, we care deeply about our communities and want to cast votes that will create a better future for our city. In addition to resources like the NYC Votes Voter Guide, Know Your Vote helps deliver the information New Yorkers need to ensure they can cast their votes for candidates who will take action on the issues that matter to them.

When is KYV updated?

Once a week (and sometimes more frequently) leading up to Election Day.
